The Witcher 3 Remastered is out now — free upgrade, both expansions included
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered is available right now on PC (Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, Battle.net), PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 — and if you already own the game, the upgrade costs nothing. CD Projekt RED has also folded both expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, into the base edition at no extra cost, making this the most complete version of the game at launch.
What's new
The remaster doesn't reinvent anything, but the changes land where they matter. Lighting has been heavily reworked, ray and path tracing are now supported, textures and character detail are sharper, and Geralt's progression system has been streamlined to be less confusing. Enemy AI gets new behaviours, UI gets a modern refresh, and two quality-of-life additions stand out: transmog lets you change Geralt's appearance without touching his stats, and meditation now plays out visually in real time rather than hiding behind a menu.
Critics have already weighed in — the remaster sits at 94 on Metacritic, one point above the 2015 original, which is a rare result for a remaster of anything.
The Switch 2 angle
The Nintendo Switch 2 version is worth singling out. Day-one parity with PC and the other consoles is unusual for a port of this scale. The Switch 2 build adds gyro aiming, crossbow firing, and sign casting via motion controls, plus touch-screen support for Gwent. If you owned the original Switch version, the Switch 2 upgrade is free. New buyers pay $59.99 in the US (€49.99 in Europe), per the CD Projekt RED press release.

What comes next
The remaster sets up a third story expansion, Songs of the Past, due in 2027 across all platforms including Switch 2. It introduces a new region called Letten and a chain weapon mechanic, and shifts focus to Ciri. No pricing for the DLC has been announced yet.
For anyone who missed the original or bounced off it years ago, this is the cleanest entry point the series has had.
