God of War Laufey preorders open tomorrow — here's what each edition includes
God of War Laufey preorders open tomorrow, September 29, at 10 AM local time — and Sony has now spelled out exactly what you get with each edition. The PS5-exclusive title, starring Faye (Laufey herself, Kratos' wife from the recent games), lands on February 16, 2027. This is a full mainline entry, not a spinoff, and God of War: Laufey has an official release date — February 16, 2027.
The editions
Two versions are available, confirmed by PlayStation.Blog. The Standard Edition comes in both physical disc and digital formats — a welcome contrast to the digital-only controversies that have dogged other big releases. The Digital Deluxe Edition is download-only and adds a bundle of Dark Alchemy cosmetics on top.
Every preorder, regardless of edition, includes the Last Wish armor set and the Phranque Golden Leaves cosmetic — an alternate look for Phranque, the game's chatty companion cube who's already become God of War Laufey dominated June's gaming showcases — and sparked the most debate.
The Digital Deluxe adds:
- Dark Alchemy armor set - Dark Alchemy blade - Dark Alchemy bow scale - Dark Alchemy catalyst - In-game resource pack - Digital mini-artbook - Digital soundtrack
Pricing hasn't been officially confirmed yet — expect that to drop when preorders go live tomorrow. Based on Sony's recent first-party AAA launches, $70 for Standard and around $80 for Deluxe is the likely ballpark.
The combat
Sony used the announcement to detail Faye's fighting style. She combines sword-based melee with a Serpent Bow that supports two distinct firing modes: aimed (precise, triggered by one button combination) and hip-fire (faster, for close-quarters chaos). Each bow can be upgraded using magical scales earned through quests and exploration.
Arrow crafting is also part of the loop — explosive, fire, piercing, and other types are all in, each suited to different enemy types drawn from mythologies Faye hasn't encountered before.
Why it matters
Santa Monica Studio is framing Laufey as a genuine chapter in the God of War saga, not a side story. Events here are meant to recontextualize moments from earlier games. When it was first announced, the premise raised plenty of questions — a protagonist most players knew only as a memory. The combat and edition details released now are the first real look at how Santa Monica plans to make her story stand on its own.
