Red Magic 12 Pro+ locks in Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and 0.96mm bezels
Red Magic has officially confirmed its next gaming flagship, the 12 Pro+, will run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 — Qualcomm's top chip for 2026 — at launch in October. The phone targets sustained gaming performance rather than just peak benchmark numbers, and it arrives in a noticeably redesigned body. If you follow gaming phones, this is the one to watch this autumn.
The chip
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 is the higher-tier sibling of the standard Elite Gen 6, offering a 13% CPU gain and a 44% GPU gain over the previous generation, along with 50% more shared memory, per Notebookcheck. It's built on a 2nm process, which should help with efficiency as well as raw speed. The Xiaomi 18 Pro is Xiaomi 18 Pro launches with dual 200MP Leica cameras and a transparent back — but US and UK availability is unclear, also targeting a late 2026 window — so Red Magic is positioning itself as the first mover with the Extreme variant.
The design
Red Magic is betting that cooling architecture separates winners in this chipset generation. The 12 Pro+ uses a dual cooling system — liquid cooling paired with an active turbo fan — to keep the Extreme Gen 6 running at full speed during long sessions. The company's Red Magic 9 Pro already used a 22,000 RPM active fan; the 12 Pro+ is expected to push that further.
The chassis is thinner and lighter than its predecessor, with rounder edges that address longstanding ergonomic criticisms, per Gizmochina. The display bezels have been trimmed to 0.96mm — down from 1.25mm on prior models. The front camera stays under the display (ninth-generation tech), so there's no punch-hole to interrupt the screen. The Motorola Signature 27, also launching this autumn, runs the same chipset but takes a very different design approach — making thermal management the real differentiator between competitors.
What to expect
Pricing hasn't been announced. The Red Magic 10 Pro launched internationally at $649; the 12 Pro+ with the premium Extreme chip and advanced cooling will almost certainly cost more. The October launch appears China-first, and international availability — including the US and UK — hasn't been confirmed. Full specs, including RAM and battery capacity, are still undisclosed. Red Magic hasn't been shy about international releases in recent years, so a wider rollout is plausible, but nothing is locked in yet.
