A growing Switch 2 pattern

On the same day Cold Iron made its announcement, IO Interactive confirmed that 007 First Light is also slipping to March 2027 on Switch 2, again citing performance polishing. Crimson Desert is similarly targeting the first half of 2027 on the platform. The pattern suggests studios accustomed to hitting PS5 and Xbox Series parity are finding Switch 2 optimization harder than anticipated — though Nintendo hasn't disclosed specific performance targets for third-party developers.
For fans of the franchise on Nintendo hardware, the situation is particularly frustrating. The original Aliens: Fireteam Elite was only ever available on Switch as a cloud-streaming version, and that was delisted in August 2026, meaning there's currently no way to play either game on a Nintendo console.
