Samsung Galaxy A08: 6,000 mAh battery and six years of updates for around $170
Samsung has quietly launched the Galaxy A08, an ultra-budget Android phone with a 6,000 mAh battery and a six-year software update promise — two things rarely found together at this price point. The phone debuted on Samsung's regional sites in Serbia and Bosnia, per SammyGuru, and a UAE retailer listing puts the price at roughly $170. No US or UK release date has been confirmed yet, but the specs make it worth knowing about.
The battery case
The A08's headline number is its battery. At 6,000 mAh, it's 1,000 mAh larger than the Galaxy A07 it replaces — a meaningful jump at a tier where most buyers stretch a charge across two days of moderate use. Samsung pairs it with 25W USB-C fast charging, which is a reasonable speed for the segment. The phone also carries an IP64 rating, meaning it handles dust and water splashes — a genuine rarity for a phone in this price class.
Inside sits a MediaTek Helio G99 chip alongside 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, according to GSMArena. The Helio G99 is a capable mid-range processor — reliable and thermally efficient, though not a gaming powerhouse. A microSD slot supports cards up to 2 TB, which matters when you're not paying for extra built-in storage.
The software promise
Six years of OS updates and security patches through 2032 is the A08's strongest selling point against rivals like the Motorola G-series or Nokia's budget lineup. Most phones at this price get two years of updates, if that. Samsung is extending its longer support window — already offered on Galaxy S and A5x flagships — down to the very bottom of its lineup.
The phone ships with Android 17 and One UI 9.0. The 6.7-inch PLS display runs at 1600×720, with a 90Hz refresh rate. Camera setup is a 50 MP main sensor plus a 2 MP depth camera, and an 8 MP selfie shooter up front. A 3.5 mm headphone jack is included; NFC is not, which rules out Google Pay.
What to expect in the UK and US
Availability outside the Balkans is unconfirmed. The UAE price of around $170 suggests Samsung is positioning the A08 below the Motorola Moto G Power and Nokia G-series in the sub-$200 tier, but US and UK carriers haven't listed it. If Samsung does bring it west, IP64 protection and that update commitment would make it a strong case against the usual suspects at checkout.
