iOS 27 is out now — Siri AI arrives for US and UK, but the EU gets left behind

Apple released iOS 27, iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, visionOS 27, and macOS 27 — dubbed Golden Gate — on September 14, 2026. The headline addition is Siri AI, a heavily upgraded assistant that can pull context from your apps and read what's on your screen to give more useful answers. US and UK users on compatible hardware get it today; EU iPhone and iPad owners don't, thanks to a regulatory standoff over the Digital Markets Act.

The new Siri

Siri AI isn't just a faster version of the old assistant. It can pull personal information across apps — your calendar, messages, emails — and factor in whatever is on your screen when you ask it something. Apple has also released a standalone Siri app alongside the update.

There's a catch at launch: Siri AI only works if your device language is set to English. According to MacRumors, Apple plans to add French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish in October — but there is no date yet for other languages, including German.

Siri AI runs on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and all iPhone 16 models and later. On iPad, you need an iPad mini with A17 Pro or any tablet with an M1 chip or newer. Mac users with M1 or later, Apple Vision Pro, Apple Watch Series 9 and newer, and Apple Watch Ultra 2 and newer are also supported.

What about EU users?

This is where things get complicated. Siri AI is blocked on iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch across the entire European Union at launch. Apple cites the Digital Markets Act — the EU's platform regulation — as the reason. As MacRumors confirms, the Mac version of Siri AI is available in the EU, but there is no disclosed timeline for when it returns to iPhone and iPad there.

UK users are unaffected by this ban, per Lewis Lovelock. The DMA does not apply in the UK post-Brexit, so Siri AI works on supported iPhones from day one.

Everything else in iOS 27

The update is not just about Siri. iOS 27 brings a Liquid Glass interface redesign, new AI-powered photo editing tools, an equalizer for AirPods, expanded parental controls, and the ability to share one phone number across two iPhones. Apple claims app launch speeds improve by up to 30% after the update.

iOS 27 is available for iPhone 11 and later, including iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation). The update is rolling out now — you can grab it via Settings → General → Software Update.
