GTA VI multiplayer won't arrive until 2027, and GTA Online isn't going anywhere
GTA VI launches on November 19, 2026 — but if you're holding out for the multiplayer, you'll be waiting another year. Twitch CEO Dan Clancy told Bloomberg that the online mode for GTA VI is expected to arrive in 2027, making it the first public timeline for a mode Rockstar itself has never officially mentioned.
The claim
Clancy made the remarks at Tokyo Game Show on September 17, framing them around Twitch's relationship with Rockstar:
> "We've spent a lot of time with Rockstar on their plans, and we've helped them think through how to engage our streamers. You'll see a big spike around GTA VI, and then next year, when multiplayer comes out, it'll be even bigger."
He also compared the game's planned marketing campaign to the scale and spectacle of the Barbie movie rollout. That's a significant signal for how Take-Two expects the title to dominate cultural conversation well into 2027.
Rockstar has not confirmed any of this. The studio has promoted GTA VI exclusively as a single-player experience so far, and no multiplayer product name, business model, or launch window has been announced. Clancy's remarks carry weight — he cited "substantial time" with Rockstar — but they are not an official commitment.
GTA Online stays alive
The other notable piece of news came from Take-Two's shareholder meeting, held the same day. CEO Strauss Zelnick confirmed that GTA Online will continue to be supported even after GTA VI's multiplayer launches. That matters: GTA Online drove 27% growth in recurrent consumer spending in Q3 2026, and killing it off would mean abandoning a very healthy revenue stream.
Whether GTA VI Online replaces the current GTA Online or runs alongside it remains unclear. Take-Two gave no roadmap for how the two would coexist.
PC timing still unknown
Zelnick separately noted that PC now accounts for 45–50% of revenue on Take-Two's major releases — a figure that suggests a faster-than-usual PC port could be on the cards. GTA VI has no announced PC release date. Based on the GTA V pattern, which took roughly 19 months to reach PC after its console debut, a realistic window runs from late 2027 into 2028. Insiders have suggested Rockstar may move quicker this time, but nothing is confirmed.
For now, the plan is straightforward: console launch this November, multiplayer sometime in 2027, and PC after that — probably.
